More and more, of our society views winning more important than itself. Success in competition brings status, popularity, and fame, not to mention college scholarships. Today’s athletes are looking for an advantage over the competition that will make them winners. Unfortunately, the drugs of today are caught up in the high stakes competition frenzy. Of this reality, teenage use of performance improved drugs is growing ever more popular. In colleges and in the professional league a lot of people are doing drugs and its ruining their health and life. Also, if some teenagers take performance drugs they are making them better than everyone else giving themselves an advantage over everyone else which is cheating, so why should they get money†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"The chance of a gold medal in two years time may out-weigh the risks of serious health problems for the rest of their life. We should protect athletes from themselves and not allow anyone to take performance drugs.†(Drug in Sports) If we protect teenagers from performance drugs they have a better chance of not dropping out of school and practice the sport. They also have a better chance of making a college they really want to go to like Baylor, TCU, and a bunch of other colleges. â€Å"Some athletes take a form of steroids — known as anabolic-androgen steroids or just anabolic steroids — to increase their muscle mass and strength. The main anabolic steroid hormone produced by your body is testosterone. Testosterone has many risks some of them are Anabolic effects promote muscle building. Androgenic effects male traits, such as facial hair and a deeper voice. Men get some major risks from taking this type of drug like some are prominent breasts Baldness, Shrunken testicles, Infertility, and Impotence.†(Mayo Clinic) Some athletes take straight testosterone to boost their performance better. Frequently, the anabolic steroids the athletes use are synthetic modifi cations of testosterone. These hormones have approved medical uses, though improving athletic performance is not one of them.
